About 5 miles northeast of Colorado Springs, at the foot of America’s most famous mountain, the 4,300-Meter-high Pikes Peak, lies the small Manitou Springs.

There is the Garden of the Gods, a very beautiful Park with bizarre red rock formations. The name of the park can still be traced back to the Indians who once lived here and for whom this place was a sacred place. The red sandstone formations from 65 million year old sediments are similar to those of the Red Rocks west of Denver. The name Colorado (colorful) is said to go back to this colored sandstone.
