Where is Essex Steam Train and Riverboat?

Since it was a beautiful autumn day, we fortunately stopped here and made the (about half-day) trip. We were there relatively early, because we did not have any tickets yet and therefore easily got combination tickets for train and ship. I would recommend paying the surcharge for either the first class (very plush but comfortable) or the open carriages. The normal second class I found boring. Overall, I find the ticket prices appropriate.

If you are there early enough, you can also watch in peace as the steam engine is heated and shunted. You get (relatively) close to the facilities.

The train ride is beautiful, although not as exciting scenically (lots of forest). But it was still fun. I also found the ship tour very pleasant, you can sit inside and also go up to the open upper deck. There are Snacks and drinks on board.

Everyone involved was really nice. Both on the train and on the ship, there are regular information about the sights, especially the “castle”, which you can only see properly from the ship.

I found it very nice and would definitely recommend the Tour, even for families with children.
