Corbin is a railway town that originated from a railway station of Louisville & Nashville Railroad (today CSX). Cumberland Falls State Park is 19 km away. The Cumberland Falls are the only waterfall in the Western Hemisphere, in which a so-called Moon arc is formed in clear full moon nights (the gray rainbow caused by the moonlight). In the suburb of North Corbin, “Kentucky Fried Chicken” was invented in the Sander’s Cafe by Colonel Sanders (1890 – 1980). Somerset is, as a starting point to Lake Cumberland, one of the most important tourist places in Kentucky. Stanford is characterized by a long settlement history. It was founded in 1775 as Logan’s Fort, and in 1786 it was granted City rights. The present district court dates back to the original building of 1787.
