Where is Ciudad Guayana Located?

With around 500,000 inhabitants, Ciudad Guayana is the largest city in the Federal state of Bolívar, and the fastest-growing in Venezuela. It is located about 700 km from Caracas and in the colonial period was called “San Tomé de Guiana del Orinoco”. Also Ciudad Guiana had to relocate the inhabitants several times and found new ground, because it was a favorite destination of pirate raids.

The most important city on the northern edge of the Guiana Highlands was until a few decades ago the Ciudad Bolívar, the capital of the state of Bolívar, located about 100 kilometers upstream.
