Background The Park was established in 1930 to protect the Carlsbad Caverns and other caves. There are more than 85 caves in the Park. Carlsbad Caverns offers visitors a variety of possibilities. The Park has been a World Natural Heritage Site since 1995.

A must for a park visit are of course the caves with their rich Dripstone equipment. There are both self-guided and ranger guided tours through the caves. As a rule, a walk to the mouth of the cave is necessary. There is also a 14,5 km long tour through the desert to Walnut Canyon as well as numerous Backcountry hiking opportunities. The visit to the park takes a total of 3 days, the visit to the large opening takes 1 hour. At nightfall, under the guidance of Rangers, you can watch the bats warm out (impressive !).
Note to protect the bats, it is strictly forbidden to photograph with flash during the evening warm-up. Offences shall be punished.
Area the Guadalupe Mountains National Park is located in the immediate vicinity of Texas.
