Where is Caribbean Sea?

The Caribbean sea is an adjacent sea of the Atlantic ocean. The 2,754,000 km2 Sea represents the southeastern part of the American Mediterranean, and is separated from the main part of the Atlantic Ocean by the West Indian islands, which extend in an arc from the Gulf of Mexico to almost Venezuela.

The Caribbean Sea was unknown to Europeans until 1492, when Christopher Columbus first sailed in Caribbean waters in an attempt to find a sea route to India.

The Caribbean sea is often (set in analogy to the oceans Indian, Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic) with the Caribbean. The latter, however, describes the entire Region, consisting of the Marine Area and islands and island groups lying there.
