Where is Callao Located?

Callao, or “El Callao” is a port city in the catchment area of the Peruvian capital, Lima. Due to its proximity, but also because Lima airport is located here, it is mistakenly believed to be part of the capital, but far from it.

Callao is on the one hand the most important port city of Peru (at least about 75% of imports and exports take place via the huge ship port) and on the other a popular destination for tourists and townsmen. Especially the beaches in La Punta, the picturesque little houses in Bellavista and of course the islands off the coast attract more and more visitors. And so El Callao, which was not necessarily considered a “good area” in the past few years, has been given quite a beautification cure and is now in a fresh shine.
