Electric industry and helicopter construction shaped the largest city of Connecticut at Long Island Sound. Bridgeport was one of the major industrial sites at the beginning of the 20th century, with the economic problems of the late 20th century it experienced unemployment, drug problems and an unusually high rate of AIDS. With three universities, which, however, are not among the first in the USA, the city is also a city of Education. Bridgeport is home to the Barnum circus family (Museum).

Bethel, Fairfield, Westport, and Wilton are among the most prosperous cities in the USA, Danbury, and Stratford are two of the wealthiest places in Connecticut.
