Where is Brasov Located?
The town was founded by the Knights of the German order in the 13th century as the southeastern city in Transylvania under the then name Corona.
Brasov, also called Kronstadt, with its 227,000 inhabitants is not only an old trading town of Transylvania in Romania. Here, where old merchant streets met, the former Kronstadt also came to prosperity. In addition to Hermannstadt, Kronstadt was the most important center of the Transylvanian Saxons. Due to its beautiful location in the Southern Carpathians and river Tampa it is also called the “Romanian Salzburg”.

An expression of the former wealth may also be the Arabic prayer rugs hanging from the embers in the famous “black church” or “Biserica Neagra”. They were gifts from Saxon merchants. After a great fire the walls became black – therefore the Name. But it is also worth staying for the big organ (with over 4000 pipes) when it is played. Other interesting churches are the Church of St. Nicholas or Biserica Sf. Nicolae and the Gothic St. Bartholomew Church.
