Bayamo is a city in Cuba. Who likes to travel away from mass tourism, should definitely consider a side trip to Bayamo. The town of 230,000 inhabitants is the second oldest settlement in the country after Baracoa and occupies a special place in Cuban history.

What Country is Bayamo in?

It was here that the Cuban national anthem “La Bayamesa” was sung for the first time, after the town was burned down during the struggle for independence in 1869. But this is not enough of historical significance: Carlos Manuel de Céspedes (1819 – 1874), considered the founding father of the Cuban Nation, was born in Bayamo, as was the well-known contemporary Poet Pablo Milanés (* 1943).
