This remote State park in northern Maine is truly a nature lover’s Paradise. It is hardly developed for tourism, has not a single paved road, over which tourists could board through the Park.

No, you have to drive slowly to enjoy the beautiful nature. Basically, you only see the real Highlights from hiking trails anyway. This is why, especially out of season, hikers almost exclusively come to the Park to admire and photograph the landscape, the wildlife, the beautiful lakes and Mount Katahdin. The Park is different from most National/State Parks in the USA, and that’s what makes it so charming.

If you expect to be able to drive from viewpoint to viewpoint by car, this is out of place. Here you really have to hike nature. However, the Trails are usually sufficiently marked, although extremely narrow and hardly prepared.

But one sees and experiences grandiose nature, almost untouched by human hands.
