Where is Baltimore Museum of Art?

The Baltimore Museum of art exhibits 95,000 works of art. But only four percent of them are women. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case – artists are extremely underrepresented in museums around the world.

A recent study also shows that between 2008 and 2018, just 11 percent of the artworks acquired by the 26 most important museums in the United States were by women. At least in Baltimore, this is now set to change bit by bit: the museum, after all one of the most important art museums in the USA, will only acquire works of art created by women for its permanent exhibition in 2020. The museum management has announced this.

Chief curator Asma Naeem talks about “correcting the canon”. The house takes the Initiative very seriously. She hopes to be a role model for other museums and to be able to initiate a movement.
