Where is Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve?

A 90-minute drive from the Golden Gate Bridge, Guerneville is located in Sonoma County, which exudes the atmosphere of a summer camp in the woods, right on the Russian River. This place has long attracted people from the Bay Area’S LGBTQ Community, but now the Mainstream is also present in Guerneville, where Outdoor Fans, Foodies and travelers of all kinds meet.

A visit to the Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve is a must for nature lovers. Here are impressive redwoods that were saved from the saw in 1870; Colonel James Armstrong noted that the surrounding forests were not an inexhaustible source of wood and preserved the atmospheric area for the public. Explore the mammoth trees, some 30 storeys high; one of the gigantic plants is called Colonel and is 1,400 years old. The tallest tree in the reserve, the Parson Jones Tree, measures almost a hundred metres.

If you have ever been infected with mammoth tree fever, you would like to spend the night under the trees. At AutoCamp Russian River, you can stay in an Airstream caravan or luxury tent and meet other travelers in The Associated mid-century modern-style clubhouse. Take a trip to Guerneville to experience the casual nightlife. There’s no need to dress up when you visit the bar Rainbow Cattle Company, an institution on Main Street where the best parties have been held since 1979. In the more refined El Barrio, exquisite Tequila, mezcal and Bourbon are on the menu, as well as smaller Mexican dishes. Boon eat + drink is a highly acclaimed Bistro serving dishes made from local ingredients in an elegant Setting. Breakfast fans will be happy at the Big Bottom Market, known for its sweet and savoury pastries. Oprah is also one of the many fans of the café.

Jump into the river at Johnson’s Beach, as San Francisco residents have been doing for 150 years. The Resort has a separate children’s area, deeper water for experienced swimmers and drinks such as beer and wine in the Boathouse. Is it too hot for you? Then rent a parasol and a sunbed or let yourself drift in a kayak, canoe or hose on the river.

Many visitors only stay in the city centre, but the ten-minute drive to the Korbel Champagne Cellars is worth it. The oldest Champagne cellar in North America was founded in 1882 by the Korbel brothers, who made the wine bubble with the méthode champenoise. A 50-minute Tour gives you the opportunity to taste dry or sweet champagnes and also visit the magnificent gardens.
