Where are Caverns of Sonora?

Where are Caverns of Sonora?

It is just as remote as the Big Bend National Park and yet worth every detour: Sonora Cavern is the noblest cave we have ever been allowed to be in. Stalactites and stalagmites are a miracle, but the gypsum and calcite formations in Sonora Cavern exceed any imagination.

You enter a magical world that seems more alien than underground. The cave walls are seamlessly and completely covered with calcite deposits. The formations called “Popcorn” are even deposited on the stalactites, which gives them the appearance of honey spoons. The excellent Guide explains that the Wind dissolves existing formations and the lime is re-deposited elsewhere, i.e. a rotating system within the cave. The chambers look like rooms full of precious stones, priceless!
