Flag of Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan is a state of Central Asia with an area of 447,400 km2. It is landlocked between Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan. Its population is 28.4 million (2012).

From an administrative point of view, the country is divided into 12 provinces (viloyatlar), an autonomous republic (respublika), Qoraqalpog’iston Respublikasi [Republic of Karakalpakstan], with Nukus as its capital, and a city (shahar), Toshkent Shahri [Tashkent-City].
