Mauritius (anc. île de France () is a large island in the Indian Ocean, one of the Mascareignes, in South-East Africa; 60 kilometers by 35 kilometers; Capital.

Port-Louis. Independent since 1968, Mauritius is also dependent on a few small neighbouring islands: Agalega Islands, Cargados Carajos banks (Saint Brandon) and Rodrigues. In total, this represents an area of 2,040 km2 and a population of 1,241,000 (2006).
