Japan is an archipelago of East Asia, with a total area of Japan of 377,835 km2. The four largest islands are : Hondo or Honshû, which is in the center of the archipelago and accounts for about 55% of the total area;

Hokkaido, in the North; Shikoku and Kyushû, the last two in the South. This country, which is, after the United States and China, the third largest in the world in terms of GDP, is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary government. It is divided into 8 regions and 47 prefectures; capital Tokyo; population 127 million.
