Flag of Jamaica

Jamaica is one of the Greater Antilles. It is a former british colony, independent since 1962.

It is located in the Caribbean Sea, 140 kilometers south of Cuba, 185 kilometers west of Haiti, which separates it the passage of winds, 635 kilometers from the American continent (cap Gracias a Dios) to 960 kilometers north of Colon (Isthmus of Panama), between 17° 40′ and 18°30 of latitude north, 78°30′ and 88°50′ of longitude west.

Oval in shape, it measures 225 kilometres from East to West, from Cape Morant to Cape Negril, 50 to 60 kilometres from North to South. It has 10,991 km2, 2,758,000 inhabitants (2006).
