Bulgaria is a state in South-Eastern Europe. With an area of 110,910 km2, it is bordered to the East by the Black Sea (354 km of coastline) and borders Romania, Serbia, Macedonia, Greece and Turkey.
As a parliamentary democracy, the Republic Of Bulgaria has been a member of the European Union since 2007 and is divided administratively into 28 provinces (oblasti, singular: oblast). The capital is Sofia. Other large cities : Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas, Ruse, Stara Zagora. Total Population : 7.2 million inhabitants (2009).
