Flag of Andorra

The Principality of Andorra, a parliamentary democracy since 1993, is located between France and Spain and was previously under the joint sovereignty of these two countries. It borders in the North with the Departments of Ariège and Pyrénées-Orientales, in the South with the region of Catalonia.

Its greatest width is 29 kilometres, from East to West; its length is 27 kilometres. The region is mountainous (highest point : Coma Pedrosa, 2946 m); it is watered by a considerable number of streams and crossed, in the sense of the length, by a tributary of the Segre, the Valira, which is formed a little upstream of Andorra la Vella, by the meeting of two branches : the Valira del Orien and the Valira del Nort.

One enters Andorra through the port of Ardux in the south, through the ports of Soldeu and Fray-Miquel in the North. The population is 71 800 inhabitants (estimate July 2007), divided between the six parishes of Andorra-the-Old-San-Julia de Loria, Encamp, Canillo, la Massana and Ordino.
