Baton Rouge is Louisiana‘s capital and located in the south of the country, on the banks of the Mississippi River and about 130 kilometers northwest of New Orleans. It is the second largest city in the state and is the centre of a Metropolitan area, referred to in Louisiana as the “Capital Area” and in which a total of more than 800,000 people live.
